Women-only rehab is mental health and substance use treatment built for women and attended only by women, with care shaped around safety, trauma recovery, and women’s lived experience.
At Sol Women’s Treatment, we offer this care as women-only outpatient treatment in Riverside. You join us in person during the day and return home each afternoon, with no overnight stay.
What Is Women-Only Rehab and How Is It Different?
In a women-only program, every person in your group is a woman. Conversations can center on experiences women often carry, such as relationship trauma, pregnancy and postpartum changes, caregiving pressure, and abuse.
Co-ed programs mix genders in groups and shared spaces. For many women, and especially for women whose trauma involved men, an all-female room can make it easier to speak openly.
“A women-only environment can create a deeper sense of safety, comfort, and trust, especially for women whose trauma involved men. When a woman feels less guarded and more understood, she is often more able to be vulnerable, to take part in trauma processing, and to engage fully in her own healing.”
Tania Acevedo, MA, LPCC, Founder and Chief Clinical Officer
Women-only programs come in different forms, including residential care. Sol is outpatient only: we do not provide detox or overnight care, and if you need medically supervised withdrawal, we will help you find the right place to start.
Why Women Choose Women-Only Outpatient Treatment
Every part of our care is trauma-informed. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) created its guide to trauma-informed care (TIP 57) to help clinicians understand how trauma affects people and to plan treatment around it.
On your first call, we ask only yes-or-no questions about trauma, never for details. You can share more later, when you feel ready.
Women-Only Levels of Care at Sol
Every level of care is women-only and in person. PHP is a mental health level of care, and substance use treatment happens in IOP and High-Intensity IOP. Many women start with our all-female IOP in Riverside, which meets three days a week.
If you are weighing the two most structured options, our guide to comparing PHP and IOP explains how they differ day to day.
“If symptoms return or a woman has a setback, we look again at what she needs and adjust where she sits in our outpatient levels of care. It’s a clinical decision, not a consequence, and nothing about her support changes while we make it.”
Alejandro Alva, MD, Medical Director
If stable housing would help you focus on healing, our supportive housing partner has an all-female home about 10 minutes from our center, with 24/7 female house managers. The home is run by a separate organization and is not part of Sol’s program, and we can coordinate your move-in alongside your start date.
Therapy, Psychiatry, and Case Management Under One Roof
Your week blends evidence-based and whole-person care, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), trauma therapy, somatic therapy, mindfulness, and staff-led art and music groups.
For trauma, we offer one-to-one EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) with Fabiola Pacheco, MSW, LCSW, an EMDRIA Certified Therapist. We time trauma work to where you are, so it sits beside the coping skills you are building.
Weekly psychiatry and medication management are included for every client. Our psychiatric providers, Meagan Love, PA-C, Jennifer Sebastian, PA-C, and Deborah Du, PA-C, work closely with your therapy team.
Research from the National Institute on Drug Abuse on sex and gender differences in substance use notes that women can face barriers to treatment as simple as not being able to find child care.
We do not offer on-site childcare, but our case manager helps you find it. She also helps with school and FMLA paperwork, benefits, and job searches.
If you are a college student, our off-campus program for college students pairs IOP flexibility with help on leave-of-absence and accommodation paperwork. Complimentary transportation is available for students and for women staying in our partner’s supportive housing.
